Françoise et Sandro sont heureux de vous ouvrir leur maison, construite en 1927. Sa structure était désuète et ils l’ont rénovée en 2001 avec l’aide de Paul Delaby, architecte connu pour avoir créé la Jazz Station à Saint Josse. C’est devenu une agréable maison lumineuse et colorée. Un écrin parfait pour les œuvres de 5 artistes de La Clairière.
Véronique Denaeyer est responsable de l’ atelier de La Clairière. Ce centre reçoit des adultes souffrant de déficience mentale modérée ou sévère. Elle y suit des artistes doués, motivés et très différents entre eux. Elle nous explique : ‘ Tout est copie - le peintre copie son modèle. Ce que réalisent ces artistes-ci ne tient cependant pas de la copie fidèle, de l’imitation conforme. Ce qui est intéressant, c’est la transformation qu'ils font subir, avec leurs tripes et pas avec leur cerveau, au modèle, aux couleurs, aux perspectives, la manière dont ils se réapproprient selon leur vision, jusqu’à signer une œuvre personnelle.’

Hun woning, gebouwd in 1927, onderging in 2001 een grondige renovatie. Paul Delaby, de ontwerper-architect van het Jazz Station in Sint-Joost, hielp hen bij de verbouwing van de verouderde constructie tot een aangenaam en kleurrijk huis met een mooie lichtinval.
Het perfecte kader om de werken van vijf kunstenaars van “La Clairière” te presenteren.
Véronique Denaeyer is verantwoordelijk voor deze werkplaats. La Clairière ontvangt volwassenen met een matige of zware verstandelijke handicap. Véronique volgt er begaafde, gemotiveerde en zeer verscheiden artiesten op. Zij legt uit: “alles is namaak: de schilder kopieert zijn model. Maar wat de artiesten hier verwezenlijken is geen getrouwe weergave, geen exacte imitatie. Het interessante in hun werk is de metamorfose die het model, de kleuren, de perspectieven ondergaan en dit vanuit hun gevoel, niet vanuit hun verstand. Interessant is ook de wijze waarop ze zich dit volgens hun visie toe-eigenen en alzo een persoonlijk werk creëren.”

The structure had become outdated, so they renovated in 2001 with the aid of architect Paul Delaby, who designed the Jazz Station in Saint Josse. It is now a pleasant, light and colourful house. A perfect showcase for works by five artists from La Clairière.
Véronique Denaeyer runs the La Clairière workshop, a centre for adults with moderate to severe mental disability. It supports talented and motivated artists, all very different from one another. As Véronique explains: “Art is all about copying – the artist copies the model. Our artists do not produce a ‘faithful’ copy or a ‘true’ likeness. What’s interesting is how they transform the model, colours and perspective - with their feelings, not their heads - and how they engage with the subject according to the way they see it, and make it their own.”
